Name: Dakota    Breed: Labrador Retriever mix

Approximate Age: 1-2 years     SEX:  female

Approximate Weight: 50 lbs

Has Lived With: other dogs, outdoor cats

Currently Living at: Shelter. Dakota needs a foster!

Hi! I'm Dakota! I'm a 1-2 year old, 50-pound Labrador Retriever mix, and I'll be headed up to the DC area really soon!

I can't wait to find a furever family of my very own! I sure am looking forward to long walks, trips to the dog park, car rides, and special treats and toys. Even better, I hope you'll take me on long hikes through the forests around the area, or maybe even play a little fetch with me in the backyard! On the other hand, I wouldn't mind spending an afternoon dozing in front of the fireplace. Ooooh... that sounds so nice, I can't help it--my tail's already wagging!

The nice lady who is taking care of me her in South Carolina says I am very smart and sweet with the other dogs, and highly food motivated! I'm pretty laid-back, most of the time, and am quite the cuddler! I haven't shown any behavioral effects of the heartworm treatment, and seem to be doing great, all things considered. Also, I've been doing well with her barn cats, and am even learning a few basic commands. All in all, she thinks I am a total love and will be a great addition to any home!

I'm not sure how I'll do with kids yet, but we can certainly try that out when I arrive. Additionally, I am really looking forward to you signing me up for some obedience classes, so I can show you what a well-behaved girl I can be!

Are you ready for a fun-loving girl like to trot on into your life? Fill out an application for me and submit it today!

Like most shelter dogs, Dakota may need a refresher on housetraining. She is likely crate trained.

Dakota has tested positive and will be treated for for Heartworm disease. Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites.  Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative.

The adoption fee for this dog is $450, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please download our Adoption Questionnaire and email it to Liz K. at lizk@luckydoganimalrescue.org!
