Name: Amelie      Breed: jindo mix

Approximate Age: 10 months as of 1/12     SEX: female

Approximate Weight: 40 lbs as of 1/12

Has Lived With:  dogs and cats

Currently Living at: local foster!

Special adoption considerations: Amelie was born and grew up on a dog meat farm in Korea.  She needs a home with a resident dog(s), a VERY experienced adopter, and a lot of patience!  Right now she is terrified of her new surroundings and has never been walked on a leash before. It will take weeks if not months for her to learn to walk on a leash... even to just take treats and engage with people.  Because she is terrified of loud noises and sudden movements, no children under 15 please.

Meet Amelie! As it says above this 10 month old, 40 lb sweetheart just recently joined our Lucky Dog family after being rescued from the Korean Meat Trade. Our goal in the next two weeks is to get Amelie to walk on a leash -- first inside the house and then around the block (with her canine foster brother to lead the way).  While this sounds simple, it will be a big accomplishment.  Right now she tends to hide in her crate if a human even makes eye contact with her.

Potential adopters MUST have experience with raising and training shy, unsocialized dogs, and expect a transition period with lots of hard work to last MONTHS, at a minimum.  Every new stimuli and experience will be a challenge for Amelie and her parent(s).

Because Amelie is under a year old, she will likely continue growing and/or gain a few pounds as she gets used to life here in DC. She is past the puppy stages but once she's out of her shell will still require PLENTY of exercise. She'd love to learn what it's like to play with new toys, explore the neighborhood, and maybe even meet new friends at puppy school! She needs a home filled with patience and an abundance of love and trust.

Amelie is currently living in a wonderful foster home with another dog and will require a furever home with a second dog so her new canine sibling can show her around! She's also currently living with a kitty foster sibling!

Amelie will need work with housetraining and crate training as these are both new concepts for her right now.

The adoption fee for this dog is $350, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. If you are interested in adopting, please download our Adoption Questionnaire and email it to Colleen at!
