MAYA NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!
Name: Maya Best guess for breed: Shepherd/Terrier mix
Best guess for age: 1 year old as of 5/2/17 SEX: Female
Approximate Weight: 27 lbs
Currently Living at: A DC foster home.
Hi, my name is Maya! I'm named after the Maya civilization that inhabited Honduras during the first millennium. I am a sweet shepherd/terrier mix who was found on the streets of Honduras by a wonderful Lucky Dog volunteer who will be bringing me to DC to find a forever home. I love people and other dogs, and can't wait to be part of a family.
Here's a little more about me. I am 1 years old, which means I am done growing, but still have some puppy energy and plenty of love to give! I would definitely be happy to get some obedience training so I can learn and be able to bond with my people. And I would be the happiest with people that would love to take me outside on some really nice long walks and runs, or to dog parks where I can make some new friends. I'm not sure yet how children or cats fit into my lifestyle, but I would be happy to find out for you, with the help of my friends at Lucky Dog.
Foster update:
Maya is such a loving, affectionate little dog. We really have fallen in love with her! She loves to cuddle, but is also independent. She enjoys sleeping in bed with us and hanging out on the couch watching tv.
Maya can be a an alpha female, she doesn't start fights, but doesn't back down if another dog tries to push her around. She can be high energy -- and this can be a bit much for some dogs. In the rescue home, she lived with many other dogs and there was never a problem, but she would be best in a home with dogs around her size or smaller if at all possible.
Like most shelter dogs, Maya may need a refresher on housetraining. She is likely crate trained.
The adoption fee for Maya is $350, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. If you are interested in adopting, please download our Adoption Questionnaire and email it to Mandy DeVine at mandyd@luckydoganimalrescue.org!
