BUCK NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!!!

Name: Buck    Best Guess for Breed: Labrador Retriever mix

Best Guess for Age: 5 years old as of 3/30/2017    SEX: male

Approximate Weight: 53 pounds

Has Lived With: other dogs

Currently Living at: A foster home in the DC metro area. Buck can't wait to find a forever family of his very own.

Special Adoption Considerations: Buck would do best in a home that already has a dog, to help him build confidence and to work on his braves.

Hi! I'm Buck--a 5-year-old, 53-pound Yellow Lab mix, and I recently arrived in the DC area! I can't believe it either. Can you? I mean, just look at the skeptical look on my face!

Now, while I know some folks prefer younger dogs and all the craziness that goes with that, I am a grown-up. At five years old, you can expect me to be up for long walks, trips to the dog park, and maybe even hiking or running. You won't have to worry about me getting the zoomies as much and tearing all over your house, and I'm far more content to take a nap on a lazy afternoon than look for ways to get into shenanigans like my... ahem... far more immature Lab mix buddies.

I do so well in groups, I was even selected by Lucky Dog to go to a week-long dog training camp at Heeling House in Sterling, Virginia! With the help of some very special kids, I learned how to do some basic agility training, worked on my commands like "sit" and "down," and had the best time showing off what a good boy I am! I luuuurrr-rrrr-rrrrved it!

I don't know if I'll get along with cats or kids, yet, but we can certainly figure that out if you have them. I need a strong pack leader in my human family to help me learn that in spite of my years of experience, I'm not really supposed to be in charge. Because of this, I look forward to you signing me up for some obedience classes right away so I can brush up on my manners and show you what a distinguished man-dog I can be.

From one of Lucky Dog's Volunteer Dog Walkers: "I got to walk Buck today, and he is such a gem! He pulled the slightest bit when we first got out the door, but that subsided in about a minute (just seemed excited!). He was interested and gentle with all of the dogs that we passed/sniffed and he also knows some basic commands (sit and paw). We stopped at a bench for a little bit and he even leaned against me for love. He's a very trusting and loving fellow that is going to be a great addition to someone's family."

From Buck's foster, who had him in her home for 7 weeks! "Buck is such sweet boy!! He loves to go on long walks and always gets so excited when he sees me reach for his leash. He does really well on the leash, but he does pull a bit when he sees other dogs during our walks, mainly because he is excited. He is completely house trained, very low maintenance, and well behaved. After our walks he loves to lounge comfortably in his bed. He does have a bit of separation anxiety, which is why he has to go to a home with another dog. But it has gotten much better while he was with me - once in a while he whines a little when I leave the house but it only lasts a few minutes. I always find him waiting for me at the door when I come home, ready to give lots of love ad happy tail wags :)"

So, what do you think? Are you ready for a sweet guy like me to trot on into your life? Fill out and submit an application for me today!

Like most shelter dogs, Buck may need a refresher on housetraining. He is likely crate trained.

The adoption fee for this dog is $350, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. If you are interested in adopting, please download our Adoption Questionnaire and email it to Liz K. at lizk@luckydoganimalrescue.org!
