Currently Living at:  DC Boarding--needs a foster, or better yet, a forever home!

Meet Handsome! This distinguished gentleman is a 4 yr old basset/aussie mix, weighing in at approximately 43 pounds. Handsome found himself at the shelter through no fault of his own and is looking for a forever family to give him the love and attention he deserves! Could it be yours?

Although he’s past his crazy puppy phase, Handsome is a lively and playful dog, so he’ll require an active family that will provide him with plenty of exercise and playtime! He will need both mental and physical stimulation on a daily basis to keep him happy and healthy.  He would love to go on long walks and hikes, and take trips to the dog park so he can socialize with his canine friends. And of course, upon returning home, he'd love to shower his new forever family with plenty of cuddles and kisses!

Although Handsome gets along well with other dogs, and lives with cats, we haven't had a chance to see him interact with kids yet.  Handsome is also looking forward to attending obedience school to hone his doggie manners and impress his new family.

Comments from SC foster:  "He is such an amazing dog. He is a lazy bum, but he gets little spurts of energy, especially when you first get home,  and he gets so excited.  He's absolutely precious, definitely one that I would keep in a heartbeat. He has had very few accidents in the house, and roams free when we aren't home and hasn't been destructive"

Like most shelter dogs, Handsome may need a refresher on house-training. He is likely crate trained.  Handsome hopes you will want to take him home with you!

Handsome has tested positive and has been treated for Heartworm disease. Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites.  Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative.
