4-year old 30 lb. female Australian Cattle Dog mix

LADY NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!!

Name:    Lady   Best Guess for Breed: Australian Cattle Dog

Best Guess for Age: 4 years   SEX: female

Approximate Weight: 30 lbs

Has Lived With: other dogs

Currently Living at: DC boarding facility, Lady needs a foster or a forever home.

Special adoption considerations: Lady is an energetic dog who cannot go to a home with cats.

Lights, camera, action! Take your seats ladies and gentlemen as our newest star prepares for her debut. Recently transported to the DC area from Florence, SC, Lady is a 4-year old Australian Cattle Dog mix with long, flowing locks that most models would kill for and a plume of a tail that hints of royalty.

Even though she's past the bouncy puppy stage we still expect Lady to be a very active dog. Herding breeds like the Aussie Cattle Dog are known for their intelligence, loyalty, and boundless energy. Adopters with active lifestyles take note: Lady can keep up with you on that daily run and may still want to play fetch afterwards. This is definitely not the dog for someone who only wants to take short walks around the block.

We don't know just what the "mix" part of Lady represents but it contributed heavily to her good lucks. Most Aussie Cattle Dogs have short fur but not this girl. Her long waves with require frequent brushing to ensure the fur does not become matted. And as the saying goes, shed happens so just be prepared for it.

It turns out that Lady doesn't just dislike fleas, she is allergic to their bites and has lost a bit of fur in some spots because of this. It will be very important for Lady's future pet parent(s) to keep her on an effective flea and tick preventive medication as preventing flea bites in the first place is the best treatment for this allergy.

Like most shelter dogs, Lady may need a refresher on housetraining. She is likely crate trained. Lady is fine with other dogs but she cannot go to a home with cats as she delights in chasing them. Lady has not yet been tested with kids.

Lady has tested positive and has been treated for for Heartworm disease. Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites.  Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative.

The adoption fee for this dog is $450, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter and heartworm treatment. If you are interested in adopting, please download our Adoption Questionnaire and email it to Diane at dianep@luckydoganimalrescue.org!
