6-year old 63 lb. female Beagle - Pointer mix
CARA NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!
Name: Cara Best Guess for Breed: Beagle - Pointer mix
Best Guess for Age: 6 years SEX: female
Approximate Weight: 63 lbs.
Has Lived With: other dogs
Currently Living in boarding, Cara needs a forever home.
Cara, a Beagle-Pointer mix, somehow ended up with a small dog's head on a good-size spotted body. Doggie DNA is funny that way but the end result is adorably cute. At 6 years old Cara has been around and now just wants a permanent home of her own. She would enjoy being part of an active household that will keep her busy (and maybe help her lose a few pounds).
As she is used to running around in boarding all day, Cara will need an exercise plan that provides her with more than just walks around the neighborhood. Whether she runs at the dog park, jogs alongside you, or spends some time at doggie daycare is up to you but you will need to do something each day to tire her out. This dog is no couch potato.
Cara will also need obedience training to help her be the best dog that she can be. It's not impossible to teach older dogs new tricks but it does take more patience as they are not blank slates. Obedience training will help Cara focus and will strengthen the bond with her new people.
Cara is doing fine now but she has had some health issues. Back in 2011 she was treated for heartworm and more recently was found to be positive for a tick-borne bacteria known as Ehrlichia. She's been treated with antibiotics and is now good as new. She also has a few old cuts from a little tussle with a kennel-mate. Hey, a girl has to stick for herself in this dog-eat-dog world.
Like most shelter dogs, Cara may need a refresher on housetraining. She is likely crate trained. While she spends her days with many other dogs Cara has not yet been tested with cats or kids.
The adoption fee for this dog is $350, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. If you are interested in adopting, please download our Adoption Questionnaire and email it to Diane at dianep@luckydoganimalrescue.org!
