Meet Helena! This beautiful and sweet girl is a 3 year-old Shepherd mix, weighing in at approximately 50 pounds. Helena is a Hurricane Harvey survivor that is coming to DC to continue making room for her friends in Texas. She is looking for a forever family to give her the love and attention she deserves after all that she has been through! Could it be yours?

Though Helena is already 3 years old, she is still a shepherd so she will need a good exercise plan. She will need both mental and physical stimulation on a daily basis to keep her happy and healthy. An adopter who works full time would need to commit to having a midday dog walker or day care for her during the week. She would love to go on long walks, hikes, and take trips to the dog park so he can socialize with her canine friends. And of course, upon returning home, she'd love to shower her new forever family with tons of kisses and cuddles!

Helena gets along well with other dogs so she'd be a great addition to an existing pack – or she'd be happy to soak up all the attention as an only dog! We haven't had a chance to see her interact with cats or kids yet. If you have them, let us know, and we'll do our best to find out! Helena is also looking forward to attending obedience school to hone in her doggie manners and impress her new family.

Helena will make a great companion and family member; you won’t regret opening your heart and home to this sweet girl!

Like most shelter dogs, Helena may need a refresher on housetraining. She is likely crate trained.

Helena has tested positive and has been fully treated for Heartworm disease. Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites.  Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects as long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative.

The adoption fee for this dog is $450, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment. If you are interested in adopting, please download our Adoption Questionnaire and email it to Lauren at laurenm@luckydoganimalrescue.org!
