Special adoption considerations: Young puppy, frequent potty breaks and socialization needed.

Meet Bernhard, he is a handsome 4.5 month old lab mix, and weights approximately 30 lbs.  Bernhard is very kind, energetic and affectionate towards everyone he meets! 

Bernhard has heard a little about forever homes from some of the bigger dogs in the shelter. He has heard you sometimes get your very own little bed and some toys to share and even some yummy treats. What he’s most looking forward to, is the cuddles, kisses and love. He just can't wait for a family or person of his own to love with his whole puppy heart! He is very excited to be coming to the DC and find someone to love and care for him!  Are you that person?

Bernhard has a playful, active and curious personality and will need mental and physical stimulation on a daily basis. Although Bernhard gets along well with dogs, we haven't had a chance to see him interact with cats and kids yet. If you have them, let us know, and we'll find out more.

Like most puppies, Bernhard will need to work on his housetraining, and will also need to go to obedience/puppy kindergarten so he can grow into a well-socialized dog! 

Because of a puppy's need for attention and frequent bathroom excursions, we do not adopt dogs under 5 months of age to homes where no one is home during the day. This means no 9-5ers, unless you commit to hiring a dog walker to come multiple times a day.

Bernhard is not old enough to have had all of his vaccines.  It will be your responsibility, as the adopter, to ensure that the remaining puppy vaccines are given at the appropriate time. Please also keep in mind that, until your puppy is fully vaccinated, he is at greater risk for illness than an adult dog.

Due to Bernhard's young age, he has not yet been neutered.  As part of the adoption contract, it will be your responsibility, as the adopter, to ensure that this is done no later than 1/1/2018.
