Sweet, handsome boy needs a home!!!

WINSTON NEEDS A FOREVER HOME ASAP!!!!

Name:  Winston      Breed:  Lab Retriever mix

Approximate Age:  2 years      SEX:  male

Approximate Weight:  47 lbs

Has Lived With:  dogs

Currently Living at:  DC area foster home -- Winston needs a home ASAP!

Special adoption considerations:  Winston is a shy boy (see his story below) and needs to go to a home where there is already a resident dog.

Meet Winston!  Winston is around 2 years old, weighs around 47 lbs and a happy, super-sweet guy!  Although he was abandoned through no fault of his own, that doesn't seem to bother him and he has a very sweet, friendly, happy and lovely demeanor.  He's pretty shy in the beginning, but once he's around another dog(s) and gets used to new things, he just blossoms into a very happy, playful, super-cuddly guy!   :-)

His favorite place in the evening, after a lot of playtime with his foster brother Amigo (also available for adoption), is snuggled up close to his foster mom on the couch!

Winston is just a real sweetheart...he LOVES other dogs and shared his small kennel with a few of them.  He's ready be your new best friend...he can't wait to have a home of his very own!

Winston was recently lost when his owner dropped the leash on a walk.  Poor Winston was terrified by a car speeding by too close, honking it's horn and he took off toward his home...which was a condo building with no way for him to get in. :-(  So he was off, on the loose, to hide and try to survive on his own.  His Lucky Dog adoption coordinator mounted a full-scale, full-time search involving hundreds of man-hours and costing thousands of dollars.

Winston hid and wandered for 16 days on his own -- from 22 Dec to 5 Jan.  As I'm sure you remember, these were bitter, brutally cold days with temps in the teens and below and life-threatening wind chills!

Miraculously and beyond everyone's expectations, Winston somehow survived those 16 days wandering out in that frigid weather and snow.  While he was somewhat shy before this experience, it has sadly left him even more shy.  He is initially uncomfortable with new places and people, but with another dog around, he relaxes and becomes a happy, goofy boy.  He and his foster brother Amigo (also available for adoption) play and run and wrestle until they tire each other out!

Winston says...Hi there, everyone!  They call me Winston, and they say that I'm just the cutest, sweetest, most loving pup EVER!!  Do you have room in your heart and home for a pup like me??  I have a beautiful, sleek dark brown coat that's super-soft…great for everyone to pet me (hint hint). :-)  I weigh about 47 pounds (not too big), which makes me a perfect size for an apartment, house or condo!!  They say I am probably some sort of lab mix…all I know is that I'm a happy pup and I love to play, get lots of pets, and give lots of doggie kisses!

Read below for more info on Winston, and email sheilam@luckydoganimalrescue.org ASAP if you're interested in him!

Winston says:  I don't know why, but somehow I ended up in a scary shelter.  It was dark and cold, and really loud.  I was scared.  I kept waiting for a nice person to come get me, but each time I saw someone, they walked right by and I was still by myself. :(   Luckily, the shelter staff said I was one of their favorites, so they did everything they could to help me get out of the shelter alive!  Now my foster mom loves me very much, but she knows that some lucky person will step up and adopt me soon!

Don't you think I would look really cute as your new Facebook cover photo, romping around in the sunshine and rolling in the grass or snow!?  And how I'd love to snuggle up by you after a long hike.  I just really want to run, play, then snuggle, nap and dream of all the adventures we'll have together.  I would just LOVE trips to the dog park and hikes in the woods -- I love to discover new things!

Winston is an awesome dog and makes friends with everyone he meets!  At around 2 years old, he will need lots and lots of exercise to stay happy and healthy.

Winston's new person or family will need to make sure he gets lots of socialization and playtime with other dogs and people to keep up the good social skills he has already!  And like all dogs we adopt out, he'll need to go to obedience classes to build a strong bond with his people, and become a well behaved companion or family member.  Winston seems to like all the people he meets, and can't wait to wiggle his way into your heart and home!

Like most young dogs, Winston may need a refresher on her house training when he gets to a new home.  He will also need to go to obedience school so he can continue to be a well-socialized dog!

The adoption fee for this dog is $350, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, heart worm treatment and spay/neuter surgery.  If you are interested in adopting, please download our Adoption Questionnaire and e-mail it to at Sheila at sheilam@luckydoganimalrescue.org ASAP!
