Shep is a 4 year old, 60 pound shepherd mix who is in desperate need of a loving family. He doesn't know why he ended up all alone in a shelter, but he definitely doesn't belong there!

Shep is beyond adorable with that big, warm, beautiful eyes. You can't avoid your heart meltin when you look at him! Shep's coat needs a little TLC, but with good nutrition and patience, it will be shiny and softer in no time! Shep is up for whatever you want to do! He is ready to curl up on the couch with you during the cold winter weather so he can recover from the shelter. He would love to go on long walks and hikes, play in the dog park with his friends, or spend all day entertaining the kids in the backyard so you can get some peace and quiet! Whatever your lifestyle, Shep just wants to be a part of it! At 4 years old, Shep has nicely moved past the crazy puppy years, but still has lots of wonderful years left to be loved and appreciated the way he deserves!

Shep gets along well with other dogs so he would fit in well with an existing pack, or could be an only child and soak up all the attention. Shep will need plenty of exercise, socialization and mental stimulation on a daily basis to keep him happy and healthy. He would also greatly benefit from obedience school where he can master the techniques of being a good boy and behave like a rockstar while doing all of those fun things will you!

Like most shelter dogs, Shep may need a refresher on housetraining. He is likely crate trained.

Shep has tested positive and been treated for for Heartworm disease. Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites.  Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative.

The adoption fee for this dog is $450, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment. If you are interested in adopting, please download our Adoption Questionnaire and email it to Lauren at laurenm@luckydoganimalrescue.org!
