BLACKY NEEDS A  FOREVER HOME!!!!

Name: Blacky      Best Guess for Breed: Scottie Mix

Best Guess for Age: 5 yrs     SEX:  Male

Approximate Weight: 28 lbs

Has Lived With:   Other dogs

Currently Living at: DC area foster home

Special Adoption considerations:  Blacky would do best in a home without children as they may be a little too much excitement for him!

FOSTER UPDATE: Blacky is feeling great and is running on all four legs again!  You can really see his spunky terrier personality out on walks.  He is a terrific listener and a quick study on commands.  He slowly is learning to trust strangers, but he will need an adopter who is patient with him as he builds up his confidence in people!

Meet Blacky! This lovely boy is a 5 year old scotty mix, weighing in at approximately 28 lbs. Blacky came here from Puerto Rico on January 20th looking for his forever home.  He was living on the streets, running and chasing cars on a very busy road, when he was rescued by his foster mom just before Hurricane Maria devastated the island.  His Puerto Rican foster mom says that Blacky loves treats and rubs on his belly and head.  His local foster mom agrees and adds that Blacky is a little shy when he first meets you, but he warms up quickly, and once he trusts you, he will melt into you for affection.  He loves to spend time outside getting to know his all new environment and is content to nap on the couch next to you in the evenings.

Blacky arrived from Puerto Rico with a torn ACL needing immediate surgery.  His surgery was incredibly successful and his six week post surgery xrays showed that his bone is almost completely healed.  He still has a few minor exercise restrictions, but those all will be lifted as of early April.

Although he's past his puppy phase, Blacky is a lively and playful, so he’ll require an active family that will provide him with plenty of exercise and playtime.  He will need both mental and physical stimulation on a daily basis to keep him happy and healthy.

Although Blacky gets along well with other dogs, we haven't had a chance to see him interact with  cats yet. If you have them, let us know, and we'll do our best to find out!  Blacky is also looking forward to attending obedience school to hone in his doggie manners and impress his new family.

Like most shelter dogs, Blacky may need a refresher on housetraining. He is likely crate trained.

The adoption fee for this dog is $350, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. If you are interested in adopting, please download our Adoption Questionnaire and email it to Lowell at lowelln@luckydoganimalrescue.org!
