WESLEY NEEDS A FOSTER OR A FOREVER HOME!!!!
Name: Wesley Best Guess for Breed: Beagle mix
Best Guess for Age: 2 years SEX: Male
Approximate Weight: 30 lbs.
Has Lived With: other dogs
Currently Living at: DC area boarding
Special adoption considerations: Wesley can be protective of his possessions and might be best as an only dog.
Meet Wesley, an energetic young hound dog who loves belly rubs, looking out windows, cuddling, and, if no one is looking, counter surfing. Wesley's ideal day would consist of a morning walk, breakfast, hour long belly rub on the couch, nap time, more belly rubs, dog park for an hour, dinner time, and then more couch time belly rubs, followed by night time walk!
Wesley is the sweetest boy who loves to say hi to everyone when he goes for walks. He does really well on walks when he has a harness on as his hound senses kick in and loves to smell everything. Wesley is great with other dogs- he never barks or tries to attack other dogs on walks, and at the dog park he runs around with everyone! He is great being alone in a house for someone who has a 9-5 job- he will sit in his crate all day with his Nelly (giraffe toy). He also is quiet at night and knows to go to his crate for bedtime! He is also learning doggie skills really well and would do great in a few training sessions! He knows sit really well and is doing well learning lay down and paw!
Wesley is an active dog who will need the chance to run off-leash and spend some time with other dogs each day. Perhaps there is a dog park in your neighborhood that he could visit? Or maybe spend some time in doggie daycare? Wesley will love going everywhere with you but he will also enjoy spending some time with his canine friends. Here's some feedback from folks who have recently taken Wesley out on walks:
"Wesley was a joy to walk, he’s very sweet and curious about the environment. He made friends everywhere we went."
Beagles are devilishly clever and Wesley will keep you on your toes. He may be small but don't assume he can't get into things, especially if there is food involved. Beagles are notorious chow hounds so be careful what you leave out on the table or counter top.
Obedience training will help you learn how to communicate with Wesley so he can show you what a good dog he can be. Start early and keep practicing until new behaviors become second nature to him. Puzzle toys with treats tucked inside will probably be a big hit with Wesley.
Like most shelter dogs, Wesley may need a refresher on housetraining. He is likely crate trained. Wesley has lived with other dogs but sometimes does not like sharing his people so he might do best as an only dog. He has not yet been tested with kids.
The adoption fee for this dog is $350, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. If you are interested in adopting, please download our Adoption Questionnaire and email it to Diane at dianep@luckydoganimalrescue.org!
