Come meet Cloe and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (APR 22) from 12-3 pm at the Rockville Petco (1507 Rockville Pike, Rockville, MD 20852)!!!!!!
CLOE NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!
Name: Cloe Best Guess for Breed: Beagle mix
Best Guess for Age: 4 years SEX: Female
Approximate Weight: 18 lbs.
Has Lived With: other dogs and kids
Currently Living at: DC area foster home
Special adoption considerations: May be vocal due to breed
Found on a dangerous road in Puerto Rico, Cloe is wise beyond her years. She knew that once she boarded that plane headed for Washington her new life would begin and what a great life it is going to be! She heard from the other dogs about this wonderful place where people treat their dogs like members of the family. A place where dogs live inside the house, with their own food bowls, soft beds, and toys to play with. Cloe's been dreaming of this magical place; can you help her dreams will come true?
Cloe's foster describes her as a medium-energy dog who wants to follow you everywhere. Beagles are known for being friendly, gentle and loyal to their people. Cloe likes everyone, especially kids. Cloe is still adjusting to life in the big city and certain things that we take for granted, like stairs and cars, are all new to her. Walking on a leash is also a new experience for Cloe and while she will settle down if put in a crate she would prefer not to be there in the first place. Baby gates might be a good alternative for her.
She will enjoy the opportunity to run off-leash at least a few times a week. Because Beagles are known for their wanderlust be sure to only let Cloe off the leash in a secure area such as a fenced-in dog park. Her foster reports that Cloe loves the dog park but is then happy to come back home and chill out. She gets along great with the other dogs in the foster's home.
Training is a must for all dogs but especially hounds who tend to be very independent thinkers. Don't forget that hounds have some of the best noses in the dog world. One whiff of the ground and they're off to find whatever that fascinating scent is, no matter how far away. Training is critical to help Cloe learn to focus and become the best dog she can be. Beagles are typically food motivated so grab a bag of treats and practice.
Somewhere along the way Cloe was bitten by a nasty tick because she tested positive for Ehrlichiosis. The good news is that Ehrlichiosis (1) can be treated with antibiotics and (2) cannot be transmitted from dogs to people. It is only passed on through the bite of an infected tick. Many dogs with Ehrlichiosis have no symptoms, especially in the early stages
Like most shelter dogs, Cloe may need a refresher on housetraining. According to her foster she is doing just great on the housetraining and hasn't had any accidents. Cloe has lived peacefully with both dogs and kids but has not yet been tested with cats.
The adoption fee for this dog is $350, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. If you are interested in adopting, please download our Adoption Questionnaire and email it to Diane at dianep@luckydoganimalrescue.org!
