Howdy folks, my name is Ranger and I am might glad to be headed your way. I am grateful for all the things the people at the shelter have done for me but every dog needs a home of his own and I'm on a quest to find one.

Still searching for is forever home at 4 years of age Ranger may not have been very lucky so far but we believe all of that is about to change. This sweet Beagle boy is sure to break some hearts once he arrives in DC.

Beagles are a hardy breed who can walk and run for miles. Ranger will need daily exercise so plan on several long walks. In addition he will enjoy having the chance to run off-leash at a fenced-in dog park or at doggie daycare. A secure area is critical for a Beagle as their strong sense of smell and wanderlust would lead them all over town if given the chance. This single-minded devotion to following a scent can cause Beagles to ignore everything else, including their owners pleas to return.

Fun-loving, outgoing, and gentle, Beagles have a reputation for getting along well with both people and other dogs. They are loyal dogs so be prepared for Ranger to want to go everywhere with you.

Training is important for all dogs but especially hounds like Ranger. Getting their attention is critical so they can understand they need to focus on you and not the scent of a leftover pizza slice 3 blocks away. Enrolling Ranger in obedience training will be a great bonding experience for both of you.

In addition to exercise dogs also need mental stimulation so be sure to have some games and puzzle toys for Ranger to play with.  Beagles are notorious chowhounds so games where he has to find the treat should captivate this young man.

Like most shelter dogs, Ranger may need a refresher on housetraining. He is likely crate trained. Ranger gets along well with other dogs but has not yet been tested with cats or kids.

The adoption fee for this dog is $350, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. If you are interested in adopting, please download our Adoption Questionnaire and email it to Diane at dianep@luckydoganimalrescue.org!
