Currently Living with DC area foster Peanut needs a forever home.
Peanut is looking for: Heard the expression third time's a charm? Well, in Peanut's case she's hoping that the fourth time turns out to be the end in her search for a forever home. You see, this poor little dog has lost several homes through no fault of her own. Her first owner was in the military and had to leave her behind. Her second owner was evicted. The third one left Peanut outside, then complained that she wouldn't stay in her pen. If there was ever a dog who deserves only the best from this point on it's Peanut.
We're not sure what Peanut is mixed with (Manchester Terrier perhaps?) but at 34 lbs. she's bigger than most Min Pins. Long daily walks will be good for Peanut as well as some time at the dog park. She likes other dogs so the park will be great for both exercise and socialization. She's quick to notice small animals when walking outside so hang on to her leash if there's a squirrel nearby.
At four years old Peanut is past the bouncy puppy stage. Despite having had several owners it's not clear how much Peanut understands when it comes to commands. As with all rescue dogs it's best to assume they have not been trained and to bring them to obedience class as soon as possible. If Peanut turns out to know a few things, well, great! It will make training that much easier.
What My Foster Says About Me: She's a dream! She walks well on a leash, gets along fine with the other dog in the house and is very loving. She will be very excited when you arrive home and try to smother you with kisses. Peanut is a big cuddler who loves sitting on laps and if you don't mind, sleeping on your bed at night.
Like most shelter dogs, Peanut may need a refresher on housetraining although her foster reports she is doing great in his house, with no accidents over a month! She dislikes being grated but fortunately has behaved so well the foster has no problem leaving her alone in the house. Peanut gets along fine with other dogs but she has not yet been tested with kids. She has shown signs of wanting to chase and so should not go to a home with cats or other small animals.
