Foster Home Feedback

9/26/19 Hello, Bones here! I just wanted to tell you about the recent fun times I've been having. I got to be a part of a photoshoot, and I'm going to be featured in A CALENDAR! I was so well-behaved the whole time, my humans were very proud. My favorite part was that I got to pose with a real-life ballerina. She was so nice to me and gave me so many pets and kisses. I was so happy. I even got to take home a tennis ball and I cuddled with it all day. The humans tell me the photos are so cute that I'll be sure to get adopted in no time -- I hope so!

7/10/19: Bones is still doing amazing, and he's really starting to show off more of that personality. We were even blessed to witness his zoomies earlier this month! He is also the BEST dog ever to enjoy dinner drinks on the patio with. He adores the attention but is not needy. We love bringing him with us and we all enjoy the extra time spent outside!

We did find out though, that Bones is absolutely terrified of loud thunderstorms and of fireworks. Even with his anxiety medication and thunder-shirt, he paced the house for days. Thankfully our bedroom is in the basement so we did get some relief watching movies extra loud and having the fan on. Even though the fireworks are now over, we are still dealing with trying to get him comfortable going outside again. Bones still has not had an accident while with us, but he was holding it for an extreme amount of time to avoid going outside.

There is still a lot of summertime left for us to enjoy so we will be working on making the outdoors fun for him again!

Update: Bones is looking for a special adopter, he has been through a long medical journey and deserves the best home! Bones had what we believed to be a routine mass removal surgery, after histopathology we found that Bones had 2 types of cancer. One a low-grade Squamous Cell Carcinoma that was cured with removal and a high-grade Mast Cell Tumor. Unfortunately, the Mast cell was a high enough grade that the risk of Metastasis (spreading) was quite high. We had x-rays done and his lungs were clear, we did an ultrasound and his spleen showed slight abnormalities. We did not want to take any chances so we had a splenectomy done per the vet's recommendations. It was sent in for testing, and fortunately, it was benign and Bones was given the all clear to start Chemotherapy. Bones has completed 2 months of treatments and has been a trooper through all of it.

There is not a lot of research available as to the duration of life after chemo with his type of cancer. There are studies that state they live more than 429 days, but there are also studies that state they live more than 1000 days. Neither study is long enough, but both are much better options then what it would have been without the chemo. Bones will require an adopter who is diligent about checking him for lumps and having them evaluated by a veterinarian.

This dog is so sweet, he has won the hearts of everyone he comes into contact with including his entire vet team. Bones has been through so much and really does deserve the best home, for however long or little time that he has it.

6/2/19: Bones, Bones, Bones! He came to us right before he started his 8 weeks of chemo. We were told he had a super chill attitude but little did we know just HOW chill he'd actually be! Bones loves to sleep! He's always up for a nap and always sleeps through the night. He's had zero accidents with us, even though we have a small dog who occasionally uses potty pads.
Bones loves walks and is fairly decent on the leash. He is strong but listens well and can be redirected. The only time we've ever really witnessed him get upset is if he sees another dog or people outside the window. He loves everyone but he portrays himself as the tough guy on the other side of the glass.

It took him a good 3 weeks for us to really start and see some of his personality shine through. He is such a goofy boy when he finally lets his guard down! He loves balls and love to tear up stuffies. I did buy him a Benebone and he absolutely goes to town chewing on his, so he will definitely need one for his forever home. He isn't super food motivated and it took him about the same 3 weeks before he would take an actual dog treat from me as well!

Bones is not a cuddly dog. If he lays with you on the couch or bed, it's an extra special treat! But don't let that fool you into thinking he doesn't want to be where you are! He always stays close and still does the happy doggy dance when you return home. On this note, Bones does not like being left alone. We struggled with him initially but again, once we hit that 3 week mark and he really settled into our schedule. He is now left out in the house and spends the day on our bed. I would not recommend apt living as he can be quite the vocalist until settled.

I could go on and on about how sweet and amazing this dog is, but you really need to meet him to fully grasp it! Please don't let his cancer diagnosis scare you from welcoming this wonderful boy into your family. He will repay you in many sloppy kisses and endless amounts of love!
