Brewser

4 year old, 45 lb. male Bassett Hound mix

BREWSER NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!

Name:  Brewser      Best Guess for Breed:  Bassett Hound mix

Best Guess for Age:  4 years     SEX:  male

Approximate Weight: 45 lbs.

Gets Along With: dogs that he likes. Brewser cannot go to a home with cats.

Currently living at:  DC area foster home.

Special adoption considerations: Brewser tested positive for heartworm and was treated on 11/19 . Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites.  Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the screening process.

Brewser is Looking For:  a new start in life. At 4 years of age Brewser can't wait to find a forever home with a family that loves and cares for him. Brewser's an easy-going kind of guy who loves people of all ages. He may be short in stature but Brewser is long on devotion and loyalty to his pack. The Brewman, as his foster calls him, loves romping in the snow and will be happy to go on long walks with you each day.

Bassett Hounds are smart dogs but, like all hounds, can be a bit stubborn so enroll Brewser in obedience class. Not everyone knows this but Bassetts were bred to hunt. Don't let Brewser off-leash unless he's in an enclosed area as he may take off to follow whatever scent fascinates him the most (typically squirrels).

Apartment and condo dwellers are cautioned that Bassetts typically have a deep and loud bark. Brewser is a mix breed, with the classic Bassett short legs and turned out feet but not the super long ears or big jowls. Brewser is selective about his dog friends and cannot go to a home with cats or other small animals.

What My Foster Says About Me:  Brewser is a happy, content, mellow fellow!  He is grateful for his treats and meals, a few squirrel sightings on his walks, and as many pats and rubs as you’ll give him.  Between naps in the house, he spends much of his day in the backyard on the watch for wildlife.  He’s eager and easy to walk, but hold on tight when he spots a squirrel!  He loves to be petted, and he isn’t shy about jumping on the couch with you for some cuddling.  He appears to be house trained, and he tolerates the crate, but would rather not spend time there.  When he looks at you with those soulful brown eyes, or even better, smiles with enthusiasm for his meals or walks or just because you came home, your heart will melt!

Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.

TO ADOPT:  The adoption fee for this dog is $450, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online HERE .
