SHORTY NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!

Name:  Shorty       Best Guess for Breed:  Doxie / Basset mix

Best Guess for Age:  4 yrs. as of 3/2020     SEX:  Male

Approximate Weight:  35 lbs as of3/2020

Gets Along With:  other dogs. Shorty likes to chase cats so it would be best if he goes to a home without cats.

Currently Living at: DC area foster home.

Special adoption considerations: Shorty gets nippy when he is scared and cannot go to a home with kids under 15. He must go to a home with adopters that are dedicated to respecting his boundaries and helping him work through his fears.

SHORTY was diagnosed as heartworm positive and received treatment on March 17. Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites.  Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment.   We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the screening process.

Shorty is Looking For:  Shorty is looking for a fun new family that will offer him lots of walks to sniff all the sniffs, and lots of opportunities to go run around with his doggy friends at the dog park. He's heard, from his doggie friends, that there's something called toys that you can run around with and squeak?!? Shorty is also ready to be his best pupper self and go to training to hone his Short-Dog skills.

What My Foster Says About Me: I have never met a dog who was more cuddly or affectionate. Right off of transport he was rolling over for belly rubs. He enjoys car rides and being outside - he loves his walks! In the house, all he wants to do is snuggle with someone. He also loves to take naps on the couch - always in a funny position! He likes other dogs - the jury is still out on the kitties though- he doesn't seem to know what they are. He will make a great addition to any home!

Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
