This boy will AUTO-matically become your new BFF!
AUTO NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!
Come meet AUTO and other great adoptable dogs this Friday (December 9th) from 5-7 pm at Elysiem Pet Store in Potmac (12500 Park Potomac Ave, Potomac, MD 20854) or Sunday (December 11th) from 12-3 pm at the Rockville PetSmart in Kensington (5154 Nicholson Ln, Kensington, MD 20895)!
Name: Auto Best Guess for Breed: Lab Mix
Best Guess for Age: 2 years as of August 2022 SEX: Male
Approximate Weight: 45 lbs
Gets Along With: Auto has done well with other dogs. We have tested Auto with some of the cats at the shelter, and he did not seem particularly interested in chasing or pouncing on the cat. While this is a positive sign that Auto could live with a cat, he has not done so to our knowledge. If you have cats in your home, we are happy to discuss with you how to best introduce a new pup to your pack! We haven't seen him with kids but he can be tested.
Currently Living at: DC area foster home.
Special adoption considerations: Auto tested positive for heartworm disease and has been treated on October 10. Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, most dogs that were heartworm positive often suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Most heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the screening process. Retesting is recommended 9-12 months after treatment to confirm they are heartworm negative.
Auto is Looking For: A forever home - could it be with you? I enjoy long walks to the park and cuddling up on the couch to watch Netflix at the end of a long day (I'll even let you choose what we watch!). Other dogs have told me how much fun they have at the dog park too - do you think we can go together? I would love to go to obedience class with you so that I can show off how smart I am. You can reward me with treats and belly rubs when we're done! So what do you think - do you have room in your life for a sweet pup like me?
What My Foster Says About Me: "Auto is settling into our house well! We've even figured out what auto Auto is...he's Herbie the Love Bug! This sweet boy loves to lean into you to get pets and cuddles! Auto is great in the crate -- no crying, no whining, no complaining at all. He goes in willingly and comes out happily, ready to play! Auto loves to play fetch, and will return time and again with the nylabone we've been using to hand it off for another throw. Auto loves to snuggle into a dog bed and just chew on a bone, or better yet, worry a soft toy -- if you have a rodent problem, Auto is your man for sure -- no rat is going to survive THAT shaking! Auto appears to have lived in a home before -- he's excited about cooking, but in a way that reminds me of my own lab mix when he was young, and we are working on the idea that paws do not belong on the counter. Auto is very eager to please and is food motivated (that's one of the reasons he wants to look at the counter) so training should be easier. He hasn't actually countersurfed, he's just taking in the view. While of course I can't guarantee that Auto is housebroken, he hasn't had any accidents in the house and he goes to the back door and will even bark to indicate he wants to go out. Auto also knows sit and seems to recall to his name, which hopefully his adopters will change to Herbie! Take this Love Bug home for the holidays -- you'll be so glad you did for years and years to come!"
Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
