sweet girl seeking love and comfort!
BRIDGET NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME !
Come meet BRIDGET and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (December 11th) from 12-3 pm at the Rockville PetSmart in Kensington (5154 Nicholson Ln, Kensington, MD 20895)!
Name: Bridget Best Guess for Breed: Lab mix
Best Guess for Age: 3 years as of September 2022 SEX: Female
Approximate Weight: 23 lbs
Gets Along With: Other dogs!
We have tested Bridget with some of the cats in the shelter, and she did not seem particularly interested in chasing or pouncing on the cats. While this is a positive sign that Bridget could live with a cat, she has not done so yet to our knowledge. If you have cats in your home, we are happy to discuss with you how to best introduce a new pup to your pack!
Bridget is shy and may do best in a home without young children who may cause her stress.
Currently Living at: DC area foster home.
Special adoption considerations: Bridget tested positive for Heartworm disease and was treated on 10/18/22. Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the counseling process. Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does not recommend retesting for at least 9-12 months after treatment to confirm they are heartworm negative.
Bridget is Looking For: Bridget did such a good job of keeping her two sweet puppies safe until they were all taken in to a shelter. Now her puppies have found their forever home, and she is looking for her own happy ending! However, right now, she has seen too many hard times and not enough good ones, and she is shy and scared around people, although she loves other dogs, and seems like she could live with cats, as well. She's seeking a loving, patient family to help her understand what it's like for someone to take care of her after her hard start in life, and help her come out of her shell. She loves being outside on walks, going to dog parks and doggie daycare! She has struggled when left alone in a crate by herself - she can be noisy and distressed when this happens, so we do not recommend her new home to be in an apartment/condo building.
She would love to learn some tricks too to show you just how smart she can be. In fact, she's so smart, she learned how to quickly climb fences to see what's on the other side!
What My Foster Says About Me: Bridget is shy and unsure about people at this point in her life - she often still shakes from nervousness and isn't often comfortable enough yet to display much affection or connection - although a log walk will get her tail wagging! She would likely do well in a home without young children, as they appear to make her more nervous. She loves being around other dogs and may do better in a home with a welcoming dog to help build her confidence and show her that people can be good! She is content to snuggle up in a doggie bed with a blankey in a quiet room and sit next to you while you work on your computer!
Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
