Gets Along With:
Other dogs! We haven’t seen Claudia with kids but she can be tested! Claudia is a bit too interested in her feline friends so a home without cats is best.

Currently Living at:    DC area foster home

Special adoption considerations: Claudia is a truly Lucky Dog. She tested positive for Heartworm disease but has already been treated! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites.  Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the adoption counseling process.

Claudia is Looking For:   An amazing family to love her for life! Claudia came into the shelter, no fault of her own, and is ready to move north to the DMV. She hopes to see what all the fuss is about up here and take trips to the dog park, daily walks around town, and show off at obedience training. As a lab mix, Claudia thinks she might like to spend a day at the dog beach in the summer or roll around in the snow in the winter. Most of all, Claudia is hoping to find a loving home – so what do you say? Is Claudia the girl for you?

What My Foster Says About Me: Claudia is such a great dog!!! She is an absolute sweetheart and SUCH a cuddlebug. She gets a little overwhelmed at the adoption events, so her demeanor there does not reflect how she is in her day-to-day life!

She’s had no issues with accidents or chewing, and she’s respectful of boundaries once they’re established (ex. we don’t allow her in the kitchen, and she understands that she has to stay over that threshold). She’s low energy while inside, and seems happy to nap while you do your thing (and she sleeps hard - be prepared to hear some snoring and sleep woofs).

She is always by your side in the house, just laying by your feet (and always prepared to roll over for belly rubs). If you lay down on the ground, she will immediately come over to curl up with you and fall asleep.

She can be a puller on the leash, but she’s working on it and she corrects easily! She is a fast learner, so she’ll improve quickly as you work on leash skills with her, and as she gets used to her new neighborhood (and the new smells aren’t as overwhelming anymore!). She is a very different girl at home and I really hope someone gives her the chance to show how great an addition she would be to any family!
