Sweet girl looking for her forever home!
BARLEY NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!
Name: Barley Best Guess for Breed: Lab/retriever mix
Best Guess for Age: 2 years as of January 2024 SEX: Female
Approximate Weight: 38 pounds
Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with kids or cats but she can be tested
Currently Living at: DC area foster home
Special adoption considerations: Barley is a truly Lucky Dog! She tested positive for Heartworm disease but has already been treated! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the adoption counseling process.
Barley is Looking For: Her forever family! This cutie is a young girl and hasn't seen nearly enough of the world yet. She's eager to experience new places, people, and pups! Long sniffy walks, romps in the park, all the adventures her new humans can dream up - yes, please.
What she wants most of all, though, is to know she's safe and loved and under her own roof. What do you say? Can you help Barley get where she wants to be in exchange for loyal companionship, adoring gazes, and tail wags for all her days?
What My Foster Says About Me: Barley is a total sweetheart, eagerly awaiting her forever family to sweep her off her paws. She thrives on cuddles and belly rubs, and she's always up for a game of fetch or simply enjoying the breeze rustling through the leaves. Barley's a social butterfly, with a wagging tail and a big grin for everyone she meets. She adores playtime with her doggy pals, happily spending hours chasing and wrestling with her foster sister. She's a quick learner, especially when treats, praise, or even intense human eye-contact are involved—she's currently working on "sit" and "wait". Barley's happiest when exploring the outdoors, relishing long walks in the park, discovering new scents, and making friends along the way. And at the end of the day, she cozies up in her crate, snuggled up in a warm blanket. So, if you're up for some fun and adventure, Barley's the perfect companion to join you on the journey!
Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
