Special adoption considerations: Huxley was confused and scared when he arrived in the shelter, but made very fast progress. We think Huxley would do best with either a resident dog or a family who can make sure he can go on walks regularly with other dogs, visit the dog park, or go to doggie daycare to continue to build confidence.
Huxley is Looking For: This cutie is eager to get out and ultimately, trot through the world with confidence, exploring all the places and experiences he has not yet seen or had. Extra patient and loving adopters are what he's seeking - and obedience school will help build his braves as well. He's already up for exploring all the toys to see what he likes best, testing various dog beds to determine the exact degree of plushness is ideal, and trying all the treats.
Most of all, though, Huxley wants to live his life as a well-loved dog and to know who his family is. In exchange, he promises adoring gazes and unwavering loyalty for all his days.
What do you say? Can you envision looking down at your side and seeing those deep, dark eyes staring up at you with love?
What My Foster Says About Me: Huxley is a sweet boy who is the perfect combination of couch potato and playful pup. His favorite game is playing tug and fetch with his jolly ball. Huxley is a good boy and limits his chewing to his toys. He does well in his crate during the day and settles in quickly. He spends the night in his crate. Huxley rarely barks. Huxley has done well with his potty training, not having an accident for several weeks and is working on bell training to tell his fosters when he needs to go out. Huxley does well on the leash. He enjoys long walks with his foster's resident dog and also demonstrates increased confidence to go on walks by himself, willing to explore new spaces that he has not previously explored with the resident dog. Huxley loves to play with dogs and plays well with dogs of all sizes. He has neighborhood dogs he frequently plays with and does well when new dogs are introduced to the playgroup. He lives with two cats showing curiosity in their activities but does not chase them. He shares bed space with the cats and does not mind when they sleep on top of his crate most nights. Huxley does well out in the public, enjoying trips to Petsmart, the park and trails and his favorite place, the ice cream shop, acting like a true gentleman while he enjoys his pup cup and when greeting people along the way. Huxley does not live with young kids however at events he does well with children, taking treats from them, following commands from them and enjoys the pets they give him. At meal times, Huxley waits patiently for his bowl to be placed on the floor. He has shown no resource guarding of food, toys or people. Huxley knows sit, down, paw and touch. He is working on "wait" and roll over. Huxley is very treat motivated and is quick to recognize new commands.
