Wants to be by your side for all those miles!

MILES NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!

Come meet Miles and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (April 21st) from 12-3 pm at the Petsmart in Falls Church (6100A Arlington Blvd, Falls Church, VA 22044)!

Name: Miles       Best Guess for Breed:  Husky and malamute mix

Best Guess for Age:  1 year as of February 2024     SEX:   Male

Approximate Weight:   40 lbs

Gets Along With: Miles does well with other dogs! We haven't seen him with kids but he can be tested. Due to his breed, he is not recommended for a home with cats.

Currently Living at:  DC area foster home!

Special adoption considerations: Miles is a truly Lucky Dog. Although he has tested positive for heartworms, treatment has been scheduled! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment.  We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the screening process.

Miles is Looking For:  Miles is a pretty awesome representative of his breed (if you know, you know!). This is what the shelter says about him:
"Miles is affectionate, playful, intelligent ...and we don't even need to say - handsome! That is so obvious. He has a fairly good recall - for a young husky. When Miles wants something - he is vocal. (His sounds make you feel like you are in the Call of the Wild story / movie.) Miles has played well with both male and female dogs. For the few times that Miles has been on a leash, he walked fine. He also does fine in cars."

The most important thing you need to know is that adopting Miles for his looks alone is a bad idea. Huskies are smart and need plenty of mental and physical enrichment - they were bred for all-day activity! If you don't provide them with that enrichment, they WILL make their own in the home and you'll be doing repairs or replacing items. But if you get their needs and meet them, oh, they are just awesome, amazing dogs full of personality.

Miles is gonna be such a fun companion. He's offering lots of laughs and opportunities for you to stay active in exchange for a home with central air conditioning and humans who appreciate his smarts and keep him challenged. What do you say? Is he the boy you want by your side for all those miles you have to cover before you sleep?

What My Foster Says About Me:   Miles is such a sweet boy. He loves to play - more with people than toys.  Always playful and happy, loves to cuddle on the couch or on the floor at our feet. He is very exuberant and a little hard to walk, but with some training, he will be the best companion! He is very food motivated which is great for training! He is good with our dog as well. He loves to cuddle next to us on the couch and he loves car rides. Miles is such a sweet dog! He is so handsome, and hardly sheds. A great companion!!

Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
