sweet girl ISO fresh start and love!

LUCY NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!!

Name:  Lucy    Best Guess for Breed:  Beagle mix

Best Guess for Age:  1 year as of July 2024       Gender: Female

Approximate Weight:   31 lbs

Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with kids or cats but she can be tested

Currently Living At: South Carolina shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get her freedom ride up here!

Special Adoption Considerations: Lucy is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.

We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!

Lucy is Looking ForFrom the time Lucy arrived in the shelter, she has been a super, super sweet girl. Even though she was scared and shy, she just kept on giving love and she has come such a long way! Her progress has been amazing. She is eagerly looking forward to getting her own humans for long sniffy walks (that beagle nose!) and all the adventures her new family can dream up. Trips to the beach, the mountains, the local fire hydrant - that all sounds great to her, and she's looking for humans who will help show her all that at her pace.

She gets along with other dogs - is a generally a submissive dog. She'd do great in a home with or without another dog. Bottom line: She just wants to love and be loved.

What do you say? Is this sweetie the companion you have been seeking?

What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once she has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with her foster
