Description:

Hi, I'm Tony an affectionate and gentle Chihuahua mix. My foster mom wrote about me below and I hope it gets me a home and family to call my own.

July 4 2013 Tony and his brother Andy became one of the hundreds of dogs frightened by fireworks and gunshots that take off and run. They ended up at a ranch in Piru and took refuge in one of the out buildings along with two other strays. The people living there thought the dogs would head for home and two did but when two stayed day after day the people closed them in the outbuilding and brought them to C.A.R.L. They got their names from the man at the Piru ranch, Antonio, thus Andy and Tony. They spent a night at the kennel and then came home with me as fosters.

The two were very shy and totally bonded. They were always together; they crawled inside the lining of a dog bed to sleep together. Andy was the leader with Tony following along. Tony was fine with the cats and dogs from the moment he arrived. He is not much of a player; he followed his brother who was a big player to keep track of what was going on but rarely joined in.

Andy was adopted in February 2014 and I was afraid Tony would be too sad. Instead Tony decided that people were even better than Andy to snuggle with. He became a total lap dog. If he cannot be in your lap he is beside you or ideally he gets on the back of the couch and slides down between your neck and the couch so he is like a scarf. He does fight for attention. He does not want to share attention, he wants it all. He inserts himself between whoever wants attention and me. He is a boy that really needs his own person. The stats show that black dogs have a harder time getting adopted, that and the continuing problem of marking in the house are the only reasons I can come up with why Tony does not have his own person, all his own. At adoption events he is always ready to respond to lookers, he walks well on a leash, he will sit in your lap and be devoted to you immediately. He is happy with us, I don’t think he even knows that some dogs don’t have to work so hard to get their love, they are the only companion with four legs and love is showered on them. I hope that someday soon he finds out what he is missing.
