Hi, I'm Oso a handsome Golden Retriever mix in need of a new home. I approached my good samaritans outside a restaurant in Mexico. I was very thin and tired, with a bad facial injury and unable to put weight on my hind left leg. Thankfully they took me in and got me the veterinary treatment I needed. My facial injury has healed, although I will probably always have a scar. You can see the scar on my head in one of my pictures. My left hind leg seems OK, although I slightly favor it when I get tired. They would keep me, but they live in a small RV and already have a rescued dog. I'm grateful they got me the help I needed and all I need now is a forever home.

I'm an active, alpha dog who needs a home with no other dogs and regular daily exercise. My ex-fosters had a Terrier mix that I got along with in the beginning, but right before I was adopted I started to show some dominance over him. I was adopted for a short period of time and I loved my mom and she loved me but I was too dominant for the other dog in the home. I need work on ignoring other dogs when out for a walk, but I'm a quick learner and when I was in a foster home, they were teaching me to ignore hostile dogs. My reactions towards other dogs is probably a result of how I was treated by other dogs when I was a stray in Mexico. Therefore I need experienced owners who are willing to continue to work with me to help me feel secure and comfortable in any situation. Although I am gentle and loving around people and children, I would do best in a home with no small children. I'm house trained and know how to use a doggie door. I'm very affectionate and I'm mostly "silent", but I can bark if I want to. Everything is so new and interesting to me that it takes me a little while to process everything around me. I do love a good squeaky toy and will chase after it if you throw it, but I still need some work in bringing it back. I prefer the game 'keep away' then fetch.

I was taken to the beach and although I was fascinated with the ocean, I tried not to get my paws wet if I could avoid it, but I did enjoy myself. Afterwards they gave me a bath in their shower which I submitted to gracefully. As you can see in one of my pictures, I was allowed to sleep on the couch in my foster home if I wanted or on the floor. I used to wake my fosters up in the morning to make sure they hadn't forgotten it's time to get up, but I didn't roust them out of bed as the Terrier mix did. Thanks to my guardian angels, my future looks bright and I hope it's not long before I have a loving family and home to call my own.

I recently contracted heart worm and am now undergoing treatment. I don't have a bad case because they caught it so quickly but it means I have to stay QUIET and only go on short leash walks until almost Thanksgiving.
