From the Foster:
He's only been with me a few days, but I bet he would be fine if left uncrated. The only reason I don't try is because my resident dog is not always nice to other dogs and I wouldn't want her to gang up on Wayne when I'm not around.

Wayne is the most laid back dog I think I've ever met.  He likes to cuddle, give kisses, rub his giant body up against you to get petted, and will do anything for a treat.  He is VERY motivated by food.  When I stand in front of him with his food bowl, he immediately sits.  He's good about waiting for you to tell him "Ok" when you set the bowl down.  Anytime there is food around, he sits down automatically and will gladly shake your hand.  The shelter staff who had him since February had only wonderful things to say about him.  Because they know him better than I do at this point (I've only had him since 6/14 and I'm writing this bio on 6/16) here are some of the comments they've shared with me about Wayne:

"He really is a Diamond in the rough!"

"He loves car rides too!!!"  I can confirm this, as there is no coaxing necessary when it's time to get into the car.

"He is seriously the perfect gentleman and so chill and relaxed."  There were numerous comments from shelter staff referring to Wayne as a "gentleman" and I can also confirm this.

"He is very much a gentleman and is especially patient with children.  I had the opportunity to be by his side in a wide variety of contexts and in situations where many other dogs would have become stressed because of the environmental over-stimulation.  His natural personality is calm, low key, reserved, and to encounter new situations at a slower pace."  Wayne met my very tiny 4 year old niece and was totally un-phased by her.  He didn't jump on her at all, just stood there and wagged his tail while she pet him.

"I've had him around hundreds of kids at a time and I have never seen him jump, push, or use his size in any way that would be scary or hurtful to them.  He is curious and welcoming of other dogs but definitely prefers to keep interactions with them calm and low key."  When he met my dog for the first time, he perked up and wagged his tail slowly (not like a normal, frantic pittie tail wag that could leave a bruise).  He did not pull on the leash either.  He waited patiently and sniffed her gently.  She actually ended up sniffing him too much and he scurried away from all 20 pounds of her.

"Got to walk him in Elgin today.  He was wonderful!"  I can attest to this as well...he has never pulled the leash once on any walk we've gone on.  In fact, I have to slow down so I don't outpace him.

According to the shelter staff, Wayne came in as a stray.  They shared his intake photo with me and it was pretty sad--he was in rough shape (VERY skinny) but now he's a solid dog with a beautiful brindle coat and friendly brown eyes.  It was a complete transformation.

All in all, Wayne has been great to have around and I am hopeful that his perfect family finds him soon!!

All dogs are in individual foster homes throughout the Twin Cities.
