BENEDICT NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!!
Name: Benedict Breed: Beagle Mix
Approximate Age: 4-5 years old
Approximate Weight: 34 lbs
Currently Living at: DC fosters
Has Lived with: Dogs
A message from Benedict: Greetings humans! My name is Benedict but I prefer to be called Eggs. When my foster mom calls me it could mean she wants me to come or that she has just made breakfast and is willing to share. I am a beagle! I love, love, love food and napping. I am also very social. I am a medium energy dog who does well with other dogs. I live with 3 other dogs right now and walk nicely in my pack (although the human says I need some work with leash manners). I am very quiet; when noisy things happen outside I just like to peek out the window to see what's up. I love the dog park, where I have made many human and dog friends. I am very smart and a good listener. I do well in my crate while the humans are gone and sleep through the night. My cuddling skills are intermediate but I am quickly moving towards advanced. I am looking for a home where I can be part of the family, will get lots of chances to socialize and follow my nose around the neighborhood on walks and one where I will have my own dog bed. Of course even if I have my own bed I will still probably want to share yours once we become better acquainted.
Meet Benedict, a 4-5 year old 34-lb beagle mix, looking for his new forever home!! As a mature pup, Benedict is past the crazy puppy phase, instead striking a great balance between energetic and calm, playtime and cuddles. He would love a home that will take him on multiple daily walks around the neighborhood and so he can sniff all the new scents with his nose to the ground in true beagle form. Benedict's foster describes him as "super sweet and typical beagle"; she said he's fit in well at the dog park and did great at his first adoption event.
Since he gets along just great with other dogs, Benedict would enjoy trips to the dog park in order to run around and socialize with my canine buddies. And as a dog-friendly beagle, he'd be happy to join your pack if you already have some pup siblings for him. If not, he'd definitely be happy soaking up all your attention himself.
Though Benedict fits right in with other dogs, he has not yet been around cats or kids. If your home has either and you'd like to know how he'd would do, please ask!
Like all beagle mixes, Benedict has the power to make his voice heard with a deep, resonating bark. Though it's not clear yet how vocal he'd like to be, keep this in mind if you live in an apartment where barking may be an issue.
Like most shelter dogs, Benedict may need a refresher on housetraining. He is likely crate trained.
Benedict has tested positive and been treated for Heartworm disease. Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative.
The adoption fee for this dog is $450, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment. If you are interested in adopting, please download our Adoption Questionnaire and email it to Diane at dianep@luckydoganimalrescue.org!
