From the Foster:

Hi!  I’m OLAF!  If you want a loyal, smart, loving companion to go on walks or jogs, loves to play and cuddle, then

I’m your dog!!!  Here is a bit about me:

Humans.    Adults, young kids, elderly folks, strangers – I LOVE ALL! Humans give me attention eventually if I go sit and look at them adoringly. Everyone says I’m a sweat heart.  I like to sit on couch spot next to humans or near their feet, but cuddle upon request!

Intelligence.   I am EXTREMELY smart.  I know look, come, sit, lay, leave it and am working on stay. I learn super quick and want to please.

Activity Level/Walking.  At my foster home, I’ve been taking short morning walks and half hour evening walks and been doing fine with that level of activity. I am a well behaved and calm dog at home.  I also walk like a champ; I know how to loose-leash walk and run.  I do not react to cars, bicycles or other people, but love to go see them if invited. I do react to dogs (see below).

Deafness.   I am deaf, but it’s no big deal.  I “check in” very regularly and “listen” well to my visual commands.  I have never had a violent reaction to being touched or woken unexpectedly; someone must have desensitized me to this in the past.  Lots of time my foster family forgets that I am deaf, until they realize they have been talking to me and feel silly when they remember.

Dogs & Cats:  I would do BEST as the only dog in a family but could do okay with another dog IF introduced properly.  I have a foster brother, a beagle.  The first few days were tense as we figured out our boundaries and relationship. A big issue at the beginning is that I would charge at foster brother to tell him to back off from my humans. This behavior largely stopped after a few weeks when I realized there was enough attention for us both, but still occasionally happens. Now, I LOVE to play with my foster dog brother and we play all the time.  We also often just sit and chill near each other. However, I am nervous about unknown dogs, especially big dogs, that we meet on walks and have been reacting to them. Foster parents know a few tricks to calm me down, such as giving me the “look” command and treating me when I break my gaze from the other dog; that works pretty well. I do have a strong prey drive so kitties and tiny dogs are a no-no for me!

Potty Training/House Behavior:  I am completely potty trained and hold it for 10 hours frequently while foster parents at work.  I also got house decorum down -- you won’t find me chewing on your stuff.

Things my Foster Parents Love About Me.   How I am so excited when they first get home to see them that I roll on my back and almost always tumble off the futon in my room.  How I am not skittish at all, just chill. How even though I am twice as big as foster brother, I often go on my tummy or back while playing so we can be at the same level.  How I am love playing with toys and carry them around with me. How when I am happy, my mouth opens up in a big relaxed grin.  I hope to find my forever family soon, so we can learn all the things we love about each other!

All dogs are in individual foster homes throughout the Twin Cities.

I f you would like to meet/adopt this animal or anyone else, then please fill out an adoption application at http://secondhandhounds.org/adoption-information/ and the foster(s) will be in touch!  Keep in mind that there may be multiple applicants applying for the same animal(s).  You only need to complete 1 application for multiple animals that you're interested in.

Note   - We change an animal's listing to say "PENDING ADOPTION" when they already had a meet and greet with a family who plans to adopt that animal.  We put "NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS" on a listing when an animal has multiple applications in and the foster has asked to stop accepting any more while they review the applications they've already received.

If you would like to be a foster for Secondhand Hounds, then please fill out a foster application,   http://secondhandhounds.org/fostervolunteer-information/fostering-101/   You can choose the type of animal you'd like to foster and we will supply everything you need (food, collar, bowls, crate, etc.) while the animal is in your care.

Thanks for your interest in Secondhand Hounds!
