ADOPTING WITH UNDERDOG: Like most rescues, Underdog dogs go through a "Foster With Intent to Adopt" (FWITA) trial period prior to finalizing an adoption. We will place the animal in your home for a 2 week "settling in period", allowing them to decompress, get used to their new environment, and ensure that they are a good fit for both you and them.
All Underdog pets are in Foster homes across the Valley. Foster families have a right of first refusal to adopt their foster pet. Fosters know the pet the best, and will be the ones to conduct the in person Meet and Greet, as well as the Home Visit. Typically, these are both done at the same time, in your home, in order to save time. If the Meet and Greet/Home visit is successful and all agree that the pet appears to be a good fit, the Foster will ensure that you've signed the Foster With Intent to Adopt contract, as well as pay the adoption fee online at that time. If during the 2 week FWITA period you have determined the pet is NOT a good fit for you and your family, you may return the pet to the rescue and receive 1/2 the adoption fee in refund, OR apply it to the adoption of another pet. An Important Note: For the security of the pet, Underdog co-owns the pet for the life of that animal. We are not looking to reclaim dogs/cats! This is simply a safety measure to ensure the pet does not wind up in a shelter or rehomed to another family member, friend, etc. that may not necessarily be a good fit and subsequently end up somewhere nefarious or worse. The pet should always be returned to the rescue for rehoming.
