Sibling Adoption Contract

This form is required in addition to the Adoption Contract for any adopter approved to adopt more than one puppy during a 6 month period. This form is required regardless of if the puppies are from the same litter or separate litters.

The adopter understands that littermate syndrome commonly occurs when two puppies (related and or unrelated) grow up together (under 6 months of age) unless the puppies (independently and together) are proactively trained to prevent it. *

The adopter understands that Littermate Syndrome is the result of two puppies forming an extreme bond which deters their social development. It then results in a futile, unhealthy relationship between the two siblings and the inability for them to form proper bonds with their humans. *

The adopter understands that Littermate Syndrome rarely presents itself during the puppy stage, which is when the bond is forming; rather, it becomes an issue as the puppies are maturing into adulthood. *

The adopter understand that Littermate Syndrome can cause training issues and even aggression between the puppies as they mature. The adopter understands the risks but is committed to keeping both dogs regardless of the outcome. *

The adopter will continue to educate themselves on littermate syndrome and actively work with the puppies to prevent it.*

Professional Training of Adopted Siblings/Multiple Puppies: The adopter understands that both siblings must go through individual AND joint professional training. This training must start as soon as possible after adoption and be with a trainer experienced with preventing Littermate Syndrome. *

The adopter understands the additional financial burden of raising littermates, which includes the need to pay for separate professional training, as required by this contract.*
