Clean kennels and kennel area, provide water & food, socialize with animals. Usually 2 hours per shift.
Answer phone at LAWS, some computer work, assist visitors or applicants, socialize with animals. Leaves time for study, etc.
Compose ads for events, flyers about events & pets, set radio announcements, work with newspaper & UW events calendar. Requires graphic design skills.*
Help trap adult cats to get to vet for spay/neuter & vaccination, return them to site; help capture kittens to take to vet, get traps to residents.
Maintain volunteer schedule for office hours, make sure a cover is available for all times. Can be done at home; mainly phone/email.
Update which kittens are with which fosters, check weekly on status, etc., learn to evaluate applications for fostering. Requires use of LAWS software, office work mainly, though could do from home.
Assist at microchip clinics, adoption events, other special events.
Search for possible funding sources, work with board & write grant applications, follow grant progress.
Find items to put in semiannual newsletter to go to members, donors, volunteers. Work with board, get content to newsletter editor.
Check website 2-4 times weekly for old items, events to note (seasonal), suggest items to post, working with board and eventually with webmistress.
