Foster Parent Application

We are primarily a home-foster based rescue. We can only save cats when foster homes are available. If you would like to foster please fill out our foster application.

Becoming a cat foster is one of the most rewarding ways to make a difference in a rescue cat's life. Foster caregivers provide a safe, loving home environment where cats can decompress, heal, and thrive while they await their forever families.

To be a successful foster, we ask that you:

Have a separate room or dedicated area in your home where foster cats can settle in comfortably. This is especially important for helping shy or overwhelmed cats adjust at their own pace.
You should also be able to commit time each day to caring for your foster cat, which includes feeding, cleaning, and simply spending quality time with them to build trust and confidence.
We also ask that our foster caregivers be located within a reasonable distance of our partner veterinary clinics in St. Charles and O'Fallon, MO, and be willing and able to transport cats to appointments when needed.
Strong communication with our rescue team is essential, as we rely on your observations to monitor each cat's health and progress.
Some foster cats may require oral medications or other treatments, so a comfort level with administering basic care is important — and we're happy to walk you through it if you're new to it.

While prior experience with cats and cat behavior is a plus, it is not required; what matters most is your patience, dedication, and big heart. We provide guidance and support every step of the way!

Provide a loving and safe temporary home which includes feeding and socializing your foster cat/kitten(s).
Follow and execute any specific instructions pertaining to the health and/or safety of your foster cat/kitten(s).
Take your foster cat/kitten(s) to the vet or rescue depending on availability.
Regularly communicate with Smelly Cat Rescue's volunteers and foster coordinators.
Notify Smelly Cat Rescue foster coordinators immediately if there seems to be a problem or illness with your foster cat/kitten(s).
