Thanks for your interest in fostering with Grey Face Rescue! Please keep in mind: We take in senior animals from all types of situations – abuse, hoarding, neglect, shelters, as well from "normal" homes where owners may no longer be able to care for them for a variety of reasons. No matter the reason behind the transition, any move can create a very frightening situation for an animal when what they know becomes totally different from their norm. It may take some animals longer to adjust to a new situation and to new humans in their lives. Some feel at ease within a few hours or days, while others begin to warm up in their new foster home only after several weeks. Our team will provide techniques and training to help make the adjustment easier, for both the animals and your family, and we ask all fosters to be patient and remain open to learning how to understand and speak "doggy language" for these special pups.
If for some reason the animal is not working out in your home, we ask that you keep him/her until a new foster can be found. We are a foster-based organization, so don't have the capability to take the animal back on a moment's notice unless there are severe aggression issues and your family is at risk. Sometimes it takes one day to find a new foster, and sometimes it can take weeks or more. Ideally, we prefer the animals are not bounced from home to home, so we ask that you use our help and support to keep working with your foster animal on issues that come up – this helps prepare them for their life after adoption as well. Our foster team has tips and tricks for many common behavioral issues, and they're happy to help you work through any challenges.
We don't tell you this to turn you away, rather we want to provide clear expectations when it comes to our dogs. Foster volunteers are the heart of our program – we couldn't do what we do without these dedicated hands. THANK YOU for stepping up to help. In the end, our requirements are simple: a love for animals, a desire to help find forever homes for some truly amazing dogs and the commitment to take part in activities that help accomplish that goal.
