Adoption

All of the animals available for adoption have been spayed/neutered, with current vaccines including rabies. Our animals are maintained on a heart worm preventative [if age appropriate]. Any known medical as well as behavioral issues have been addressed and are fully disclosed prior to adoption.

Completing the application is not a commitment to adopt, it is a preliminary gathering of information in order to see if the animal of interest and the components of your home/environment/lifestyle will be a good match for all parties involved.

To be considered an adopter, you must these minimum requirements:

Once the application is received, you will receive an email from one of our volunteers from email address adopt@lilrascalsrescue.org and usually within 48 hours depending on the number of applications submitted for your dog of interest. If you have not received an email reply, please check your spam folder. We make every effort to review applications as quickly as possible and respond in a timely manner; because we are an entirely volunteer run organization, we ask for your patience during this process. If you are applying for a puppy, please realize that we typically receive dozens of applications per puppy, and we may not be able to reply to every application or email that is received.

We do not have a central location/facility to visit our animals. Our rescue's animals reside in the homes of our volunteer fosters, and meet and greets are typically scheduled for approved adopters only and by appointment.  If your application is approved, the adoption coordinator will schedule the meet at a set location.  Although you are required to select a dog for your application, it does not commit you to adopt a certain dog.  We understand that not every dog is a fit for every family, if you apply to adopt a particular dog and it is not love at first sight, we can change your application for another rescue animal.  There will be no need to complete a new application.

Please be advised that our applicants are fully screened and background is checked for the safety of our animals and volunteers.  You may be asked to provide additional information. We require current or former veterinarian contact info and will check the vaccination and heart worm preventative history of your current or past pets. This history plays a very important role in our decision to adopt to an applicant. We reserve the right to approve or deny your application based on our findings.

Due to the limited number of volunteers available for home checks and transport, adoption applications in the following counties will be considered first:  Orange, Seminole, Volusia, Brevard, Lake, Osceola, Marion and Polk. Lil Rascals Dog Rescue only adopts within the state of Florida, and out-of-state applicants will not be considered.

Our volunteers reply to every application. If you have not received a reply within 72 hours, please check your Junk/Spam folder. To prevent our emails going to your Spam folder, please add adopt@lilrascalsrescue.org to your contacts.
