CATsNAP is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization that seeks to reduce pet overpopulation and to improve the welfare of animals in the greater Champaign County Illinois area. All animals are in foster homes, at an off-site adoption partner site, or at our headquarters on State Street in Champaign IL. We rely solely on donations and volunteers.

Adoption Events Our adoption events take place on most Saturdays at PetsMart on Prospect St. in Champaign, and sometimes at other venues in Champaign-Urbana. Activities here include but are not limited to: setting up and taking down events, communicating with and matching pets to prospective adopters, attending to the maintenance and socialization needs of cats at the events, and helping with adoption paperwork. Cat Caretakers and Socializers Our rescue is foster based, but we have cats that reside at our headquarters, PetSmart, Pet Supplies Plus on Kirby Ave. in Champaign, and periodically other locations. Caretakers/socializers sign up for shifts beforehand to visit the cats, attend to their maintenance needs (refreshing their water and food bowls, cleaning litter boxes, bedding, etc.), and socialize with them by spending time playing with and grooming them, etc. Needs at our three main venues vary depending on the season; the volunteer coordinator will make recommendations based on your availability and interests. Feral Cat Trappers This position requires helping to trap stray feral cats whenever we have a TNR grant or when we are needed. Training is required before starting this position. * Choose one: Yes, I'm interested I might be interested Not interested at this time
Fosters Fosters give the most selfless gift of all – you care for animals in your home. Some may have special needs or require special care, while others need some time out of the cage until they find a home of their own. Fundraising Events and Grant Writers These positions are much needed, as we are 100% volunteer and donation based. We need creative and committed volunteers to help plan and assist in fundraisers, suggest and plan ideas, write grants and proposals, etc. A meeting is required before starting this position. * Choose one: Yes, I'm interested I might be interested Not interested at this time
Medical Volunteer This is a special position at our headquarters that involves working with our sick or injured animals. It is best suited for people with extensive experience medicating cats or possessing other veterinary or medical expertise. I, the undersigned, hereby release and hold harmless Champaign Area Trap Spay Neuter & Adoption Program, heretofore to be known as CATsNAP, including but not limited to its trustees, directors, officers, managers, volunteers, assistants, and assigns from any liability ensuing from any injury or damage to my person and/or any and all of my personal effects caused by any of the animals under the care of CATsNAP, while at the shelter sites (Champaign PetSmart and Pet Supplies Plus) or at any other site.
I understand that volunteering for CATsNAP involves risk to me, including but not limited to scratches and bites from the animals, as well as injuries including but not limited to bumps, scrapes and bruises.
I also understand that there is a possibility of contracting certain medical conditions including but not limited to ringworm and rabies.
I am aware that handling animals can, in fact, cause serious injury. I also understand that I am responsible for my child/children and this statement is applicable to them also.
I also recognize that by volunteering with CATsNAP, there is a risk for my own pets contracting parasites such as fleas, worms and mites, and other medical conditions such as ringworm, respiratory infections, and other diseases.
I have been told that thoroughly washing my hands after handling any stray, feral, or adoptable CATsNAP animal will greatly reduce any possible transmission.
I am hereby choosing to volunteer with CATsNAP willfully and of my own volition, fully mindful of the known dangers and risks I am assuming in connection with these activities.
I further certify that I have medical insurance coverage and recognize that it will be my responsibility for payment of medical expenses related to an illness, injury or accident while volunteering for CATsNAP.
I understand that CATsNAP recommends that all volunteers who handle animals should receive a rabies vaccination through the volunteer's medical provider at the volunteer's own expense.
I also will not be bringing any children under 12 to the CATsNAP headquarters or events, or allow children under 12 around any CATsNAP animals per CATsNAP's policies.
I also understand that I am responsible for my participating child/children between the ages of 12-17, and this waiver of liability statement is fully applicable to them also.
I hold CATsNAP harmless for any accidents or injuries, which may be caused by my own, or another volunteer's negligence or carelessness. I also will not be bringing any children under 12 to the building/Petsmart/Adoption events per Catsnap's policies I also understand that I am responsible for my child/children and this waiver of liability statement is applicable to them also.* Choose one: I agree
