When will you be ready to bring home a new dog? We do not want to rush the adoption process and we want our adopters to be prepared for their new addition. We cannot hold dogs for adopters, however, as every day that a dog remains in our care is a day that we must turn away another at-risk dog. Please consider this when applying to adopt.* Choose one: I am ready to bring a dog home as soon as I find the right match and am approved, which I understand could be as soon as TODAY or could take a few weeks. I have a scheduling conflict in the near future that will prevent me from taking the dog immediately. I have just started my search and am not sure when I will be ready. The SOSARL matchmaking process is a collaborative effort between the adopter and SOS volunteers, and many individuals may be involved in the process, including you/your household, your adoption counselor, the foster home, your current pet(s), and an SOS trainer. We have many years and thousands of matches of experience, and are committed to using our knowledge to create successful outcomes. We have chosen to work with and inherently trust our adopters (as you do us), but we will also not hesitate to share concerns about a match, as we have everyone's best interests at heart. Pre-screened status does not guarantee adoption of any particular dog, nor availability of any particular dog. We take the temperament of our dogs and matchmaking with our adopters very seriously. Every day that we care for our dogs, we learn more about them, but we have not observed our dogs in all situations, and many behaviors are relationship- and/or situation-specific. We cannot predict the future, but we draw upon our extensive experience and knowledge about both our dogs and adoptive homes to create matches that will support a good quality of life for all involved. By working with SOSARL, you are agreeing to be an active participant in this process, which may take unexpected turns and pivots, and end in an unexpected outcome. Our shared ultimate goal is to lay the groundwork for appropriate outcomes while maintaining transparency, kindness and trust throughout the relationship.

SOSARL adoptions to Massachusetts residents are indefinitely suspended with the exception of a few special needs dogs. If a dog is available for placement into MA, this will be noted in their online bio. For these dogs, an additional MA Quarantine Fee of $150 or more is required to cover the state mandated quarantine requirement. You can read more about these requirements here: http://sosarl.org/about-adoption-fees/ and http://sosarl.org/sosarl-and-regulations/. Do you accept these terms?* Choose one: Yes No I do not live in Massachusetts
By submitting this application, I/We that we are the adopters and that I/We are at least 18 years of age. I/We affirm that all information is true and complete and that no one in the household where the pet will reside has ever been convicted of animal cruelty or abuse. I/We agree to give permission for a representative of SOS to call our references, both personal and veterinary that are listed. I/We also understand that a home visit by an SOS representative may be required before we are approved to adopt. I/we will review and sign an Adoption Agreement that will outline my/our roles of responsible pet guardianship, including providing year-round heartworm preventative, a commitment to positive only training, and providing SOS with the option to take back the animal in the event I/We are no longer able to properly care for the animal.
After clicking SUBMIT below, you will receive an auto-response email to confirm your application submission that also includes additional information. You understand that you will first hear back from SOS after your vet/landlord reference checks are completed and if you are not readily available to move forward with the adoption process, SOS may pursue other applications ahead of yours. The process could be completed in as quickly as one day, or several weeks depending upon the availability of information and individuals.
