Fostering is a committment of time and energy, and we hope to make the foster experience rewarding and beneficial for both you and the dog. We try very hard to find forever homes for our dogs. Because we care about our dogs, not all adoption applications are approved. Dogs remain in foster for a period that is not pre-determined, particularly in the case of an injured, chronically ill, or elderly dog. I understand that as a volunteer for BDR, I will provide my own automobile and health insurance, and hereby agree to not hold BDR or any of its volunteers, associates, or foster care providers liable for any physical, emotional, or property damages that are a direct or indirect result of activities involved in the placement, transport, grooming, training, or evaluating of dogs in any way associated with BDR. This includes any and all activities I perform as a BDR volunteer. I understand that there are inherent risks when dealing with any dog for BDR, including but not limited to dog bites and damage to property. AGREEMENT: I agree to obey all applicable laws governing control and custody of the dog, including leash laws and barking control.*
I agree not to keep the dog(s) on leased or rented property where a "No Pets" policy is in force.*
I agree to provide adequte fresh food (supplied and/or paid for by BDR) and water, clean and dry shelter and daily exercise, and to follow specific directoves for each particular foster dog. I agree to keep the dog in a large kennel or crate indoors, and to provide it frequent acces to a clean, secure yard that is completely fenced. I understand that, only with written permission from BDR may I leave a dog uncrated indoors. (BDR will provide bowls, crate, bedding, and toys, but they remain the property of BDR and must be returned upon completion of the foster period.)*
I agree to keep the rescue-provided collar, rabies tag, and ID tag (and microchip tag, if provided) on the dog AT ALL TIMES. If I bathe the dog, I will not allow the dog to leave the room without replacing the collar and tags.*
When taking the foster dog oustide of a completely fenced area, I agree to use a Martingale collar with leash and harness (if provided/recommended), in addition to a kennel lead.*
When transporting by motor vehicle, I understand that - in addition to the foregoing - a harness and seatblet attachment are highly encouraged. (BDR will provide these at no cost to you.)*
If the dog is missing/lost, I agree to notify all BDR contacts immediately, and to participate fully in the effort to recover the dog.*
I will provide transportation, or arrange for transportation, for the dog to the approved veterinarian. I understand that BDR will schedule appointments, maintain communication with the vet, and pay for approved services. I will not accept treatment or medications not approved by BDR. I will be responsible for treatment or medications that I accept if they are not pre-approved.*
I agree to track required medical treatments (vaccinations, blood tests, heartworm, or other preventative/treatment/procedure etc.) and contact BDR prior to when injections, diagnostics, or prescriptions are due. I understand that BDR will provide for all vaccines, treatments, preventatives, and necessary medications.*
I agree to track all treatments on the Dog Medical Record provided in the Foster Home Folder and retain all veterinary receipts for the dog's permanent record; I will supply these to BDR.*
I agree to encourage those interested in adopting the foster dog to visit BDR's website www.BetterDaysRescue.org to read the dog's entire profile and complete an Adoption Application.*
I will not promote or "hold" a dog for an adoptive family without BDR approval.*
I understand that I will not be reimbursed for expenses related to the dog that are not pre-approved. I will contact my BDR representative for approval. (In many cases, BDR can have what you need delivered to your door!)*
I understand that if I purchase items for the dog in my care that are not approved for reimbursement, they can be considered a donation and that I may give receipts for those items to the BDR representative and request a year-end donation receipt.*
I understand that I must direct any questions or concerns to a BDR representative, and that I will immediately advise if I determine that a dog needs to be removed from my home. I understand that alternate arrangements will be made as promptly and expediently as possible, but may not always be immediately available.*
I understand that, upon request, physical possession of the dog will revert to BDR immediately upon demand. I will not charge BDR or their agents with trespassing, should they be forced to recover the dog from my property.*
If I would like to adopt a dog that I am fostering, I agree to complete the BDR Adoption Application. I understand that, even though I am fostering, I am not guaranteed or assured that the dog would or will be placed in my care permanently.*
If I would like to bring another animal into my household (by adopting or fostering) I agree to immediately notify BDR so that they understand the origin of the dog (private home, boarding, public shelter) and assess the behavior of the dog.*
I agree to defend, indemnify, and hold BDR harmless from all claims, and any judgments, damages, fines, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) resulting therefrom, brought or commenced by any person or entity against BDR for the recovery of damages for the injury, illness and /or death of any person, pet, or damage to property arising out of or alleged to have arisen out of (a) a failure by Foster Parent to comply with all federal, state or local laws, ordinances and regulations applicable to Foster Parent, or (b) for tort damages arising out of negligence by Foster Parent or his/her agents in performing Foster Parent duties.*
I agree to waive all benefits flowing from any state statue which would negate or limit the scope of this Contract and Indemnification Agreement.*
I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS MEANS THAT I AGREE TO BE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ANIMAL(S) IN MY CARE AND FOR ANY INJURY RESULTING TO PERSON, PETS OR PROPERTY ARISING FROM, OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF MY DUTIES WHILE A BDR FOSTER ANIMAL IS IN MY CARE.*
